id Fans Flames Following John Carmack’s Comments About Rage’s Poor PS3 Performance

Developer id Software has quickly jumped on the recent console wars flame up that company head John Carmack sparked after telling Edge that the PlayStation 3 version of id’s upcoming post-apocalyptic title Rage currently runs at “just 20-30 [frames-per-second]” whereas the Xbox 360 version runs at 60 FPS.
In response, id said, via its Rage-dedicated Twitter account, “We are committed to ensuring that gamers on all platforms have a great Rage experience.”
An official response from id on this whole mess was obviously expected, however, it’s a bit surprising that the company had to even make it in the first place, considering in the same offending interview with Edge, Carmack said, “We expect [Rage] to be 60 hertz on every supported platform. The work remaining is getting it locked so there’s never a dropped frame or a tear, but we’re confident that we’re going to get that."
Did the PS3 users who raised all this “ruckus” reach for the pitchforks and torches a bit hastily on this one?

Bethesda Beams Down Details On Fallout 3 DLC Mothership Zeta
Updated: New Trailer!
I know it’s hard to believe Fallout 3 fans, but you’re quickly approaching the end…the end of Fallout 3 DLC and high prices! (End of high prices not a guarantee.) Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming spaced-out Mothership Zeta will be the final DLC released for the post-apocalyptic role-playing shooter (unless Bethesda goes back on their word). However, don’t think that the game’s developers are planning on home-phoning this one in so they can finally be done with the massive, massive undertaking that Fallout 3 has been. Far from it.
Bethesda dev Brian Chapin spoke with Polish gaming site Polygamia about the upcoming DLC, and revealed some interesting tidbits. For starters, because the chapter takes place entirely on the Mothership Zeta spacecraft, a high Science skill will be essential to your success, while skills like Speech and others will simply assist in your exploration of the ship. Nothing too shocking there, but still good to know.
Of course, with high-tech environs, comes high-tech, energized weaponry, including the Disintegrator and the Atomizer. Yet, as Chapin explains, “We do, however, have new weapons for several other categories, including Melee, Big Guns, and Explosives. And not everything you’ll find on the ship comes from the aliens.”
Apparently, those damn, dirty aliens have been capturing lowly earthlings from all manner of time periods and locations (and experimenting on them in horrific ways), so expect to see quite a wide variety of enemy types as well, in addition to the primary alien population, which is divided into those looking for a fight and those who are simple workers, just looking to earn a living.
Also, the alien connection evidently goes a bit deeper than a simple captor/prisoner relationship. Chapin teased that the aliens, “may have some connections to other experiences you’ve had while playing Fallout 3…” (Tell me that I collected all of those Nuka-Cola Quantums just so these alien bastards could have cold beverages for their next intergalactic picnic!)
PlayStation 3 fans will be pleased to hear that DLC is expected to start rolling out for you in September, while Xbox 360 and PC users will be beaming up to Mothership Zeta on August 3rd for 800 Microsoft points.
Mothership Zeta looks rad. Anyone disagree? How are you coping with the fact that this will most likely be the last Fallout 3 DLC?

Video: Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta DLC trailer
The upsurge in DLC releases hasn’t just given gamers more reasons to play and replay their games again and again (and spending more money in the process, more often than not), it has also given rise to actual trailers for downloadable content. Trailers like this new one for Fallout 3’s Mothership Zeta DLC.
The Mothership Zeta DLC will be released for Xbox 360 and PC on August 3. The upcoming DLC will have players investigating a strange distress call from a crashed UFO, eventually ending up in an alien spacecraft and having to fight their way out.
A PS3 version will also be made available after all of the DLC packs that came before it have been released on the Sony home console.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin getting new DLC, title update this September

Warner Bros. and Monolith Studios have announced a new DLC pack for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin players to enjoy this September. The DLC pack, called F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn, will feature four new levels for the single-player campaign that coincide with the events in Project Origin.
The new levels will have gamers play as Replica soldier Foxtrot813. As gamers begin the mission as part of an orbital Powered Armor drop to reinforce their squad, the ruined city of Auburn emanates supernatural events and familiar voices, beckoning Foxtrot813 to go against orders from Replica command.
A demo of the DLC pack will be released on August 27, while the complete package will launch on September 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3. PC gamers will get it at a later date. Also incoming is an automatic title update that adds a free Slow-Mo Deathmatch multiplayer mode that lets gamers obtain a slow-mo powerup to slow down enemies in multiplayer deathmatch.

Left 4 Dead 2 Racist? Valve: “Huh?”

There’s politically correct, and then there’s whatever this thing is. Basically, a blogger from the Houston Chronicle accused Left 4 Dead 2 of racism for – we kid you not – including African-American zombies and setting the whole shebang in New Orleans. His logic, of course, hinged heavily on Hurricane Katrina, since – wait, what does this have to do with racism again? Valve was left scratching its head as well.
"Utter insanity," Valve’s Chet Faliszek said when asked for comment by Destructoid. "There are mixed races of zombies, there are all different races of zombies that you shoot, and since we placed it in New Orleans, that makes it racist? I honestly re-read the paragraph about five times … but when two of the characters in your game are African-American, it’s a weird thing to be accused of. We’re like, ‘how does this work’?”
“This is a videogame, those are real people’s lives, we are not trying to make a statement with that … [New Orleans is] a place we love, it’s dear to our hearts. We would not cheapen it. It’s not a brick-for-brick representation of New Orleans; it’s a fictional version, and I love that city," he added.
So that’s that. All this talk of racism is really starting to weigh on our spirits, though. Why can’t we just go back to the good old days, when videogames only caused murders and 100% of youth violence? Those were such carefree times.
